Anticipating 2010

Some things to look forward to in the coming year:
- Kevin Vanhoozer is coming out with Remythologizing Theology: Divine Action, Passion, and Authorship. Apparently, Drama of Doctrine wasn’t magisterial enough.
- Brazos’ biblical commentary series continues to impress. Among others, I’m looking forward to Joseph Mangina’s commentary on Revelation.
- Jerry McKenny’s new book on Barth’s moral theology, The Analogy of Grace, is a must-read. Let’s indulge in some hyperbole: McKenny may do for Barth what de Lubac did for Aquinas.
- Luke Bretherton tries to move political theology from the abstract to the momentary: Christianity and Contemporary Politics: The Conditions and Possibilites of Faithful Witness. Should be interesting.
- Novelist and essayist Marilynne Robinson will cross over to philosophy to engage the new atheists in Absence of Mind: The Dispelling of Inwardness from the Modern Myth of the Self.
- James Mercer of The Shins is teaming up with Danger Mouse for what looks to be an amazing debut: Broken Bells.[audio:http://www.theopolitical.com/data/highroad.mp3]

I’m really excited about that Marilynne Robinson book. Too bad it comes out in May! But in the meantime, you can listen to the lectures on which it’s based:
