Why I’m a Constantinian on the ball field

A revealing comment I found in an excellent little Stanley Hauerwas essay on baseball:

Moving back to the Midwest meant, however, I accepted my destiny, returned to my roots, and again became a Cubs fans. This commitment came at the same time I was convinced by reading John Howard Yoder that I had to become a pacifist. I like to think being a Cubs fan and a pacifist are closely linked — namely, both commitments teach you that life is not about winning.
