As a Calvinist at ND…

I enjoyed this quote from an essay by Robert Taft (the Jesuit, not the legendary conservative senator):

[Ecumenism] seeks to put the best interpretation on what the other does and says, to shine the exposing light of criticism evenly, on the failings of one’s own church as well as on those of others. In short, it seeks to move Christian love into the realm of scholarship, and it is the implacable enemy of all forms of bigotry, intolerance, unfairness, selective reporting, and oblique comparisons that contrast the unrealized ideal of one’s own church with the less-than-ideal reality of someone else’s.

Settled In

After 1900 miles, and several trips to Chicago and IKEA, we’re finally getting settled in at Notre Dame. More posts should follow soon.

Back to the Midwest

Blogging will be sparse over the next week or two as we pack up and make the move to Notre Dame. Despite the indisputable cultural superiority of the Midwest over the Pacific Northwest, I’ll miss the great community here in Moscow, Idaho — not to mention the availability of the best microbrews in the country.

See you on the other side.
